Crash Course in Visitor Management - English version

What does the crash course include?

This course was developed during the pilot project Visitor Management in Nordland County. The target group for the course is neighborhood associations, community organizations, and other voluntary groups. Designed as a self-organizing program, and was developed in close collaboration with three local communities in Lofoten – Fredvang, Eggum, and Vindstad. 

The course is for those of you who want to offer great experiences in your local area – for both local visitors and long-distance visitors. It’s for those who see the value in managing visitor flows to protect the local community, culture, and nature. Maybe it’s urgent to act before the visitors arrive, or before the next season starts? Through this crash course, you’ll create a safe space and encourage each other to test ideas and solutions as early as possible. Remember: Have fun – otherwise it won’t work!

The crash testing methodology is based on the world’s simplest innovation model: Need – Solution – Test (NST). The working method can be practiced over four evenings and includes practical tasks to be tested between sessions. You can run the course yourselves, and it’s free. It might be a good idea to involve a designer for a few hours – they’re great at visualizing solutions, which can be helpful when crash testing with others.

Rules for using the course and material

Volunteer groups and organizations may use the materials and run the course for their fellow community members – in village associations, grazing cooperatives, neighborhood groups, mountain farm collectives, or resident associations in fishing villages or urban districts. All rights to the course materials belong to Nordland County Council. It’s important that you do not split up or alter the content, copy, forward, or use it in other contexts. Please respect the origin and use proper references.
